Understanding Percentage Change
Percentage change calculations are commonly used in finance, investing, economics, retail pricing, statistics, and business reporting.
Percentage Increase Formula
((New Value - Original Value) / Original Value) × 100
Percentage Decrease Formula
((Original Value - New Value) / Original Value) × 100
Example
If a stock price rises from $50 to $65:
- Difference = 15
- 15 ÷ 50 = 0.30
- 0.30 × 100 = 30%
The stock increased by 30%.
